Looking Out For Hope In The Cold Winter Night: A Glance at Interiors

On Thursday, November 28th, 23 IB DP Theatre students embarked on a field trip accompanied by Theatre teacher Mr. Wilson and Fine Arts teacher Mr. Avila.  Students traveled to the heart of Shanghai, to the Buick Grand Theatre, to partake in a performance of Interiors, an award winning British production first staged at the Scottish International Festival.

The performance was touching, inspiring, and human.  Students were amazed by the impactful blend of theatrical realism, technical projection, and unique set design.  The performance left students with many ideas of their own, as well as many questions about the intentions and philosophy of the stage show.

When asked to reflect on the performance, Grade 11 IB DP Theatre student Gabriella stated that “the insipid but impactful narration, paired with the silence of the actors, drew the audience to pay more attention to the movements of the characters and their intended expressions.”  Gabriella will apply her experience of the performance to her IB assessments, as an inspiration for her own creative work.

Students returned to Qibao Dwight bearing rich memories, impressed by the powerful experiences which theatre provides.
