School History

Officially launched in September 2014, Shanghai Qibao Dwight High School is the first and only independently-run Sino-U.S. cooperative high school in China. It is a partnership between Shanghai Qibao High School and the Dwight School in New York City and has been approved by the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Education and registered by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China (Chinese-Foreign Cooperative School License No.: PPDE31USA04INR20140730N). The school became an IB World School with the authorization of the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) and implemented the IBDP Program in June 2015.

Qibao High School

Founded in 1947, Qibao High School is located at No. 22 Nong Nan Road in the ancient water town of Qibao. Shanghai Qibao High School is dedicated to providing numerous opportunities for every student and teacher to realize personal development within a humanities focused curriculum. The mission of the school is to instill students with a sense of humility and a deep consciousness of their social responsibilities. By the time our students graduate they will be equipped with high-level research skills which will enable them to explore the world in profound and meaningful ways.

The Chairman of the School Board, Mr. Qiu Zhonghai, is a Top-Level Principal and Top-Level Teacher in Shanghai. From 1994 to 2016, Mr. Qiu Zhonghai was the Principal of Shanghai Qibao High School. He is also a National Model Teacher, a National Outstanding Teacher, a Shanghai Outstanding Teacher, and a Shanghai Education Grand Contributor, among other designations. Chairman Qiu serves in many social positions, including specially-appointed professor of East China Normal University, adjunct professor of the National Training Center for Secondary School Principals, Ministry of Education, P.R. China, the deputy director of Shanghai High School Educational Management Committee, the host of Yangtze Delta Distinguished High School Principal Training Base, the host of Shanghai Distinguished Principal Training Base, and the host of Minhang Secondary School Backbone Principal Training Base.

Dwight School, New York

With roots dating back to 1872, the Dwight School is a private, coeducational day school located in New York City, and was the first school in the U.S. to offer IB programs from early childhood education to Grade 12. Dwight School has more than a dozen leaders in IB curriculum development and has been recognized as a leader in IB education and global outreach. In 1972, Dwight was the first school in the U.S. to establish an international school outside of the U.S, with the first campus in London.

The mission of Dwight School is “Igniting the spark of genius in every child.” The school believes that every student is unique, and its goal is to create globally minded world leaders. Personalized Learning, Community, and Global Vision are the three pillars of Dwight School. Dwight graduates will be able to enter some of the world’s leading colleges and universities, including Harvard, Stanford, Dartmouth, Princeton, MIT, NYU, McGill, and Oxford. Its famous alumni include Walter Lipman, Henry Morgenthau, Truman Cabot, Roy Lichtenstein, Prince Hall, etc.

Shanghai Qibao Dwight High School has been jointly created by Qibao High School and Dwight school, which has become a new member a big family of 4 other Dwight campuses in New York, London Seoul, and Dubai.
